Subway Kittens Find a Home

Arthur & August, arguably the most famous kittens in New York City history, found a great forever home this fall, nearly two months after they made headlines for bringing subway service to a halt. “What's neat to see is that while August is clearly the more adventurous one, he shows his attachment to Arthur by making sure he comes along for all the adventures,” adopter Katherine says. “For Arthur's part, he tends to calm August down when his bursts of energy begin to get frenzied."

In August, the duo was rescued from the subway tracks and brought to Animal Care & Control of NYC's Brooklyn Care Center. They received socialization and some much-need TLC in AC&C foster homes. Arthur, the tabby, needed to be hospitalized at one point due to his weakened immune system, and he was also treated for a severe eye infection. This medical care was made possible by AC&C's Special Treatment and Recovery (STAR) Fund.

Both kittens are doing great now, and have a wonderful home with Katherine Lynn and Keith Lubeley, who've proved to be not only loving guardians of Arthur and August, but also wonderful ambassadors for pet adoptions in general.

As the couple told New York Magazine's Daily Intelligencer, "there are tons of worthy animals out there still looking for loving homes, some of whom were probably rescued in the subway but without the excitement of shutting down the B and Q for hours. If this unusual story spurs some adopters who are on the fence about taking the plunge and adopting a cat or a dog, then that's the best possible ending." We couldn't agree more.
